Casualty

Here is some of the environment work we did for the large crash scene in Episode 1 of series 33 of Casualty. For this shot we needed to extend the motorway location to give a sense of being on the outskirts of a major city. The distant skyline was tackled as a traditional matte painting, but the sweeping camera move meant the foreground had to be built in 3D.

 

We did the modelling in Houdini and Maya with the texturing being carried out using Substance Painter. We built some tools in Houdini to help with scattering the trees and for architectural features such as steps and railings. The shot was lit and rendered with Mantra in Houdini.
